As far back as 1952, in the Croatian town Vrgorac located in Dalmatinska zagora, a butcher's shop was set up which as such was the first one to officially rest on traditional methods of processing and smoking meat following recipes passed on from generation to generation. The small manual trade has evolved into one of the leading meat-processing industries in the Republic of Croatia. Today Pivac is a brand and has become the byword for high-quality smoked and cured meats with prosciutto, pancetta and Karstic neck blazing the trail. Besides launching a smoked and cured meats program, WE Pivac has been engaged in the production of semi-durable and durable products as well as fresh meet, which reach their customers throughout the region via a developed distribution grid.
